What began as a jubilant celebration quickly descended into chaos for Liverpool FC fans on Water Street, Liverpool, after a car drove into a crowd of supporters, leaving scores injured.
The incident occurred on Sunday around 6 p.m. local time, as thousands of fans gathered in the heart of the city to celebrate Liverpool’s historic Premier League title win, their 20th overall, now level with Manchester United’s record.
According to AFP, the car could be seen honking as it slowly maneuvered through the tightly packed crowd.
Moments later, the vehicle suddenly accelerated, sweeping through pedestrians and sending panic across the gathering.

The driver, a 53-year-old man from the Liverpool area, was later apprehended by police at the scene.
Angered by the chaos, members of the crowd attempted to confront the driver, shattering the rear window of his vehicle before he was rescued by police.
Authorities have confirmed that the man has been arrested and that the incident is not being treated as terror-related, but rather as an isolated case.
Emergency services responded swiftly, transporting the injured to nearby hospitals. The condition of the child remains serious, though stable, according to medical officials.

UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer posted on X, saying: “The scenes in Liverpool are appalling. My thoughts are with all those injured or affected. I want to thank the police and emergency services for their swift and ongoing response to this shocking incident.”
Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch echoed similar sentiments, calling the footage “deeply worrying” and extending her thoughts to the victims and first responders.
Liverpool FC issued a statement confirming it is in contact with authorities and offering support to those affected: “Our thoughts and prayers are with all those who have been affected by this serious incident. We will continue to offer our full support to the emergency services and local authorities.”
