English Premier League trophy lands in Nairobi ahead of weekend football matches

Football fever has gripped Nairobi following the arrival of the English Premier League (EPL) trophy in Kenya ahead of this weekend’s football action.

The gleaming silverware, one of the most recognized trophies in world sport,  touched down in the capital on Friday, drawing excitement among fans eager for a rare chance to see football’s ultimate prize up close.

The trophy will be on public display at Bar Next Door along Kiambu Road on Saturday, October 25, and Sunday, October 26, as part of a special fan showcase featuring live match screenings, interactive experiences, and appearances by football analysts and influencers.

The two-day event brings together sport, culture, and entertainment, offering local fans an immersive experience that captures the passion and energy of Premier League football.

“We want to create a platform where Kenyan fans can connect more deeply with the game they love,” said Guinness Brand Manager, Joy Murugi, a representative of the event’s organisers.

“The presence of the Premier League Trophy not only elevates the experience but also recognizes the passion and loyalty of Kenyan football supporters,”she added

The Premier League remains the most-watched football competition in Africa, with Kenya ranking among its most loyal markets.

According to sports engagement data from Google Workspace, Kenya ties with Malawi and Uganda at 86 percent popularity, second only to Mauritius at 91 percent.

Fans attending the event will enjoy live commentary and tactical breakdowns of key fixtures from local football experts, alongside immersive setups inspired by stadium atmospheres complete with music, local food vendors, and merchandise giveaways.

For many Kenyan fans, the trophy’s visit represents more than a photo opportunity. It’s a celebration of community, pride, and the shared excitement that unites millions of supporters around the world through the beautiful game.
