'I'm a reckless spender': Davido reveals wife Chioma takes charge of family finances

Nigerian music star David Adeleke, known as Davido, says his wife Chioma manages their money because he is a spendthrift. 

A short video of him asking Chioma to send cash to his assistant has since gone viral.In the clip, Davido explains he could not access his bank account because of a service problem, Vanguard News reports.

While preparing to travel, he called his wife and asked her to transfer Sh516,166 ($4,000) to his personal assistant, Lati.

“Hello, hello baby, good morning my wife, my love. Help me send Lati $4,000. I can’t login, I don’t know why, it’s the service here. Alright. We’re taking off now to Naija, I love you,” he says on the call.

After the call, Davido’s official streamer, Davreltv, asked whether Chioma now controls the family finances to which Davido answers yes. 

He explained that Chioma manages their money because he often spends without thinking.
“Of course, you know I’m a reckless spender. Na she dey arrange everything. Na my life coordinator be that,” Davido said, using casual words to describe his wife’s role. 

He meant that Chioma organizes his life and handles money matters so things run smoothly.

The short video quickly spread across social media platforms. Many fans and followers reacted with comments and mixed feelings.

Some praised Chioma for taking responsibility and helping keep the family’s finances in order. These viewers called her a practical and supportive spouse.

Others found the moment funny and shared memes and jokes about Davido’s spending habits, as social media users teased the singer for needing permission or help to send money. 

Some debated whether it is healthy for one partner to control finances entirely, while others said couples should manage money in whatever way works best for them, sparking wider conversation about money roles in relationships.

According to Ghana Web, Davido and Chioma have been in an enduring, on-and-off relationship for nearly 20 years, dating back to their university days.
