A wave of chaos swept through Thika Road, Juja Road, and Outer Ring Road yesterday afternoon (March 11) as daring criminals took advantage of President William Ruto’s tour in Mathare to rob unsuspecting motorists and pedestrians.
With security personnel nowhere in sight, the brazen thieves swarmed vehicles, snatching valuables from terrified passengers in broad daylight.
Viral videos captured the shocking scenes, leaving Kenyans in disbelief.
In one widely circulated clip, a group of young men is seen clinging onto a moving minibus, some hanging from the windows, aggressively reaching inside, presumably to steal from the passengers.
Another group raids a parked delivery truck, shamelessly grabbing soda bottles before dashing off.
“Cheki tu vile hawa wasee wanaperemba watu. Ona tu, gari ya msee imevunjwa. Soda ndio izo, watu wa ghetto, hapa Ruto hawezi toboa,” a voice narrates in the video, highlighting the boldness of the robbers.
Another clip, seemingly recorded from inside a shop along Outering Road near Allsops, shows a mob sprinting towards business premises and pedestrians.
They then recklessly cross the road, hopping over guardrails, paying no heed to oncoming traffic.

As the robbery spree unfolded, panicked Kenyans turned to social media to warn others.
@hajjimutonye alerted, “A group of armed thugs from Mathare allegedly wameingia highway wakaanza kuibia watu. People were abandoning their cars wanatoka mbio kujiokoa.”
@wandurika_kamau questioned the glaring absence of police, asking, “Where was Muthaiga police station? We were just lucky by whiskers.”

Adding to the intrigue, a separate undated video shared by @FGaitho237 showed a group of men boldly declaring, “Tuko area yetu. Na hii area yetu, apana tambua. Tumesema ni Ruto anakula kumi. Na Baba vile alisema ndio tunafuata. Tunafanya kazi na serikali, na serikali inafanya kazi.”
The clip ignited heated debate online, with many questioning its timing and possible connections to the Mathare chaos.
Meanwhile, President Ruto proceeded with his tour in Mathare, inspecting the TJ Kajwang Mathare North Secondary School.
He announced plans to hire ten teachers and construct 24 new classrooms. Additionally, he assessed the ongoing construction of the Mathare North Fresh Produce Market.
However, the President’s promises were overshadowed by the wave of robberies, leaving many Kenyans demanding answers on why security was alarmingly lax.
