Chadwick Boseman: Black Panther actor posthumously honoured with Hollywood Walk of Fame star

Yesterday, 20th November, Chadwick Boseman was posthumously awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Colleagues, friends and family gathered to celebrate the actor’s work and the lasting legacy he left behind.

Remembrances from close collaborators including director Ryan Coogler and actress Viola Davis, and ended with a gesture when Boseman’s widow, Simone Ledward-Boseman, placed a pair of his shoes on the new star.

Speakers at the ceremony repeatedly returned to themes that became central to Boseman’s life and legacy.

Ryan Coogler, who directed Boseman in Black Panther, became visibly emotional as he recalled their first meeting and the quiet authority Boseman brought to a set.

He described him as a “guiding light” whose commitment shaped not only performances but the way stories about Black life were told on a global stage.

Viola Davis, Boseman’s co-star in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, delivered a heartfelt tribute that captured their close friendship and the spiritual dimension many who worked with him perceived.

She spoke of his capacity to remind colleagues of “what it is to be human” and reflected on their philosophical conversations and the discipline behind his artistry.

The ceremony attracted an array of high-profile attendees, including Black Panther’s Michael B. Jordan and Letitia Wright, fellow Oscar nominees and collaborators, and industry figures who acknowledged Boseman’s unique ability to lift collaborators and audiences alike.

The ceremony, saw his wife, Simone Ledward-Boseman, place a pair of his shoes on the star, symbolically allowing him to “step” onto the memorial.

Simone, who married Chadwick privately months before his death, also brought a framed picture of the actor.

She shared the moment with his brothers, Derrick and Kevin Boseman, honoring Chadwick’s legacy and the life he lived. "Chad was more than an actor or even an artist," she said as reported by E! News.

"He was a spiritual teacher fortified by family; close friends that kept him grounded in faith; a team that believed in him, protected him and fought for him; colleagues that trusted his vision, that lifted him up and forged a real brotherhood."

According to Variety, Lupita Nyong'o had paid tribute to Chadwick Boseman ahead of the ceremony, "He is on an ancestral plane, and the more we utter his name, the more his spirit stays alive," she said.
