Mugithi singer Mary Gioche popularly known as KarehB is a woman in pain. Days after losing her son Joseph Mwadulo in a tragic accident, she is yet to come to terms with the loss.
“I need answers,” she wrote, as she probed into what might have led to the Easy Coach bus accident that snatched her son’s life.
At 17, Joseph Mwadulo had his all his life ahead of him and aspired to be a pilot. This dream was, however, cut short as he, together with other students of Chavakali High School, were heading home for the holidays.
“I am breaking apart...I have been a parent at Chavakali Boys for the past 4years and no one has called to inform me of my son's death or better still condole with me…you even had to bribe someone with 30k!!!
“Is my son worth 30k??” she asked.
KarehB also asked for proper communication from the school, questioning whether students are allowed to travel at night.
“Education Minister; who permitted minors to travel at night? Transport &Roads Minister; was the whole traffic Marshall asleep that no one noticed minors travelling at night?
“Government; what is your take on this issue? Are you going to continue being silent and lose more children on the roads...what measures are you putting in place to curb the accidents doing the rounds…Do we need to resurrect Michuki? I need answers.”
According to a police report, the bus was heading to Nairobi when the driver lost control and overturned at Mamboleo in Kisumu.
KarehB found out about the accident on social media but did not learn about her son’s passing until the following day.
“Several parents were at the Easy Coach stage to pick their children but I could not see my son. I began inquiring of his whereabouts from the school’s administration and I was informed that some of the students involved in the accident had reached out to their parents,” she said.
Her family then asked one of their friends in Kisumu to check whether her son had been admitted to one of the hospitals and it was then that they learnt of his demise.
