Fresh from bagging a basketball gold for Team USA in the 2024 Paris Olympics, Golden State Warriors point guard Steph Curry recently spoke of his friendship with LeBron James.
The two superstars were part of a star-studded lineup that saw off hosts France in the final and had to put their court rivalry aside to fly their nation’s flag high.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Curry said playing in the same team with James for the first time was amazing and it deepened the respect they have for each other.
"All the battles we've had on the court and the back and forth, the fact that we actually got to be teammates, not just in any game like an All-Star game or whatever, but in high stakes basketball with a lot on the line...I think there's a deepened respect and friendship there," he said.
He added that they will still compete when they go back to their respective NBA teams for the new season but he now understands why James is a top athlete.
Curry said both James and Kevin Durant (KD) have incredible work ethic and their stellar careers are not by accident.
"It's everything that most people don't get to see. It's the time on the recovery table, it's the time in the weight room, it's day in, day out.
"That little bit of investment in preparing your body and your mind to perform. There's nothing really glamorous about it. It's extremely hard work. It gets monotonous at times and dealing with all the bumps and bruises of being an athlete, injuries that you have and all that type of stuff, it's a grind,” he told PEOPLE.
Adding that they motivated each other during their Olympic experience. Curry added an Olympic gold to his stellar collection of accolades and has been buzzing ever since.
Ahead of the new NBA season which will be his 16th, Curry said he will tap into the Olympic energy to remain at the top-most level and compete.
