Nairobi County’s Chief Officer in charge of Environment, Geoffrey Mosiria, was yesterday forced to seek refuge in a truck after he was attacked by a group of rowdy youths during the President’s tour of Kamukunji.
In a video circulating online, a visibly shaken but defiant Mosiria is seen sandwiched between two NYS officers.
“Leo umepatikana, leo kimeumana,” one of the youths is heard mocking him.
In a separate video taken from the crowd’s perspective, a group of youths is seen swarming the cabin of a green truck.
On his X account, @HonMosiria shared a photo of himself alongside Environment CS Aden Duale, stating, “Today I had a brief discussion with CS Environment Hon Duale, and he assured me of the national government’s support towards environmental conservation, including noise pollution control and flood mitigation.”
This incident occurred during President Ruto’s tour of Kamukunji. Amid questions about unrest and circulating videos of the President struggling to address noisy youths, he went on to commit Sh50 million towards the expansion of Kamukunji Technical and Vocational College, among other development pledges for Nairobi residents.
Mosiria rose to prominence after taking up his role and hitting the streets in an attempt to regulate loud nightclubs. He quickly became a controversial figure, with netizens questioning his highly active social media presence.
The same netizens also criticised his absence and alleged illness during the garbage dumping dispute between the County Government and Kenya Power—a saga that even drew the involvement of the Head of State.
At the time, Mosiria shared a video with the caption: “I had an infection that led to my admission at Nairobi Hospital yesterday. I will be discharged once I’m well. I thank my colleagues and fellow Kenyans for your prayers.”
