Moviegoers expecting an action-packed screening of Spider-Man: Brand New Day instead found themselves fleeing the auditorium after a patron's persistent, overpowering flatulence reportedly made the room unlivable.

According to TMZ, which first reported the incident, the smelly situation unfolded on Sunday, August 2, during a screening at the Cine Colombia multiplex inside the Plaza Bocagrande shopping centre in Cartagena, Colombia.

Audience members told the outlet they began noticing a strong, "rotten" odour coming from one section of the theatre roughly halfway through the film.

Many initially assumed it would pass quickly, but the smell rapidly intensified and lingered.

Patrons described the odour as increasingly foul, leaving those seated nearby visibly uncomfortable.

Some covered their noses with clothing or popcorn buckets, while others abandoned their seats to escape what one attendee described as a virtual "Dutch oven."

Despite their efforts, witnesses said the stench quickly spread across the entire auditorium.

As complaints mounted, cinema staff and security were called in.

"It started with people giggling, but after a while nobody was laughing anymore," one moviegoer recalled. "The smell just wouldn't go away. People were getting up every few minutes to leave."

"We tried to ignore it because we wanted to watch the movie, but it reached a point where people couldn't concentrate. Several families with children walked out before the film ended," another added.

Cinema employees entered the auditorium following multiple complaints and briefly paused the screening.

However, with the odour lingering and a growing crowd fleeing into the hallways of the Plaza Bocagrande mall, management decided to evacuate the theatre.

While no official statement identified the person responsible, and it remains unclear whether the incident was caused by a sudden medical issue or an intentional prank, witnesses reported that the individual quietly slipped out during the evacuation.

No medical emergencies or injuries were reported.

The unusual episode quickly went viral on social media, sparking thousands of reactions online, with many joking that the screening featured more unexpected drama than the movie itself.
