Gengetone star Maddox opens up on rehab journey after Mosiria rescue: 'I was afraid'

Gengetone artiste Maddox has opened up about his recovery journey, a month after Nairobi County official Geoffrey Mosiria rescued him from the streets and helped him begin rehabilitation.

The former Boondocks Gang member shared the update during an interview on Saturday, August 29, 2026, after being admitted to the Rapid Rehabilitation Centre for Addiction in Nairobi earlier this month.

Maddox admitted that he initially feared going to rehab but later realised that accepting help was the right decision.

“I made a good decision to accept and go to rehab. Mosiria took me there, and I saw it was a good place. At first, I was afraid,” Maddox said.

He said his treatment involves medical and therapeutic support from doctors, therapists and counsellors as he continues with his recovery.

Beyond the medical treatment, Maddox said he has been keeping himself occupied through meditation, reading, watching films and writing music.

“I want, when I get out of here, to have my songs ready so that I can serve my fans and supporters,” he said.

Maddox's rehabilitation follows an intervention by Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, after members of the public raised concerns about the artiste's condition.

According to Mosiria, he located and rescued Maddox on August 3 on Mirema Drive in Nairobi, where he found him living on the streets. After speaking with him, Maddox agreed to accept help and was taken to the rehabilitation centre.

Mosiria has continued to share updates on Maddox's progress and pledged to support him throughout his recovery journey.

Maddox rose to prominence as a member of Boondocks Gang, one of the groups associated with the rise of Kenya's Gengetone movement.

His rehabilitation journey has drawn attention from fans and fellow artistes as he focuses on recovery and prepares for his musical comeback.
