Wezesha Awards to honour youth, community champions at August 8 gala

The organisers of the 2026 Wezesha Awards and Mr. & Miss Tranquillity Africa have announced plans to recognise individuals and organisations making a social impact through youth empowerment, community service and civic engagement.

Speaking during the official media launch on Wednesday, the organisers said this year's awards will be held on August 8 at PrideInn Plaza Hotel, Signature Mall along Mombasa Road.

The 2026 edition will be held under the theme, "Youth Power: Protecting Democratic Gains, Advancing Justice and Promoting Open Governance."

"This theme reflects our belief that young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow; they are leaders today," the organisers said.

They added that through active civic participation, accountability, innovation, peacebuilding and community service, young people have the capacity to strengthen democracy, promote justice and advance transparent and inclusive governance.

The awards will celebrate individuals and organisations whose work is transforming communities while empowering the next generation of leaders, also calling on government institutions, the private sector, development partners and civil society organisations to support youth-focused initiatives.

"We call upon government, the private sector, development partners, civil society, and the public to join us in investing in young people and supporting initiatives that create lasting social impact," the statement said.

The Wezesha Awards are organised by the Wezesha Youth Initiative, a Kenyan organisation focused on youth empowerment, leadership development and community engagement.

The organisation also runs the Mr. & Miss Tranquillity Africa pageant, which combines modelling with advocacy on issues including peacebuilding, mental health, gender equality and community service.

Unlike traditional beauty contests, contestants are expected to champion social causes and undertake community projects as part of the competition.

This year's event seeks to recognise individuals and organisations advancing youth leadership, civic participation and sustainable community development, while encouraging partnerships that strengthen democratic governance and social transformation across Africa.
