The late Albert Ojwang has been given a heartfelt and visually powerful send-off, as hundreds gathered to honour the fallen teacher during a moving public memorial ceremony.
His polished mahogany casket stood at the centre of attention, draped with the bold red of a Manchester United flag, an unmistakable tribute to his lifelong love for the English football club.
Ojwang's casket was flanked by a grand display of fresh white flowers, a Kenyan flag, and a framed photo of Ojwang placed at the head, bearing the emotional message: “Forever in our hearts. Celebrating the life of Albert Ojwang.”

In one image, the red Manchester United flag stood out vividly against the rich brown of the coffin, with mourners and photographers forming a respectful circle beneath a red canopy.
In another, guests filled the tented seating area, many visibly emotional, clutching tissues and holding hands as tears flowed freely.
Ojwang’s love for football, particularly for Manchester United, was well known among his students, colleagues, and the wider community.
In death, his friends and amily ensured that this part of his identity was not only remembered but honoured. The Manchester United banner on his coffin was more than a symbol of fandom, it was a testament to the passions that made Ojwang such a cherished figure.
His journey from Kisumu International Airport to Homa Bay was accompanied by public mourning and, at moments, tension. Mourners resisted the presence of uniformed officers, reflecting the unresolved pain and anger over the circumstances surrounding his death.

Albert Ojwang, a respected History and CRE teacher, was celebrated not just as an educator, but as a mentor, a father, and a spirited football fan whose energy once lit up the classrooms and rugby fields of Kituma Secondary School.
His tragic passing has left a void, but the outpouring of love and the powerful tributes—including the flags, flowers, and football jersey—spoke volumes about the life he lived and the hearts he touched.
