Lauren Sanchez's designer wedding gown stolen during wedding to billionaire Jeff Bezos

Who would probably gatecrash Jeff Bezos’ $50-million wedding in Venice to steal one of her wife’s wedding dresses? That is the question many are asking after claims that one of Lauren Sanchez’s wedding dresses was stolen while the couple were in the middle of their wedding celebrations.

In what could be the heist of the century, patterned after Hollywood blockbusters such as Ocean’s 8, the thief is rumoured to be a gatecrasher who evaded the tight security that included an antiterrorism squad.

In the 2018 film, Sandra Bullock leads a team of women to steal a diamond necklace from the Met Gala, one of the most secure fashion events.

But this is not a movie scene and it is puzzling how an uninvited woman managed to board one of the water taxis ferrying high-profile guests to the wedding venue, use a secret entrance, steal a dress belonging to the bride of the world’s third richest man and walk out past the hawk-eyed security undetected.

The missing dress was part of 27 outfit changes Sanchez had during the three-day event and included an outfit from Italian luxury fashion house Dolce & Gabbana that she wore for the main ceremony.

The theft, first reported by Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, likely occurred when the couple was exchanging their wedding vows.

Hello magazine reported that “an unknown woman who was elegantly dressed allegedly snuck past security without an invitation before she was escorted out”.

“A legal complaint about the missing dress was not made to police in Venice, since the couple thought the dress would just “turn up” at some point,” wrote the UK’s Independent.

The couple had several events lined up during the event—two welcome dinners, the ceremony and a post-wedding party—each requiring Sanchez to change her outfit to fit each occasion.

While it is still not clear as to which of the 27 dresses is missing, the main wedding dress took 900 hours to make while the cocktail dress was embroidered with “175,000 hand-sewn crystals and 600 yards of chain”.

The June 27 wedding was attended by 200 guests, including some of the most high-net-worth individuals on the planet such as Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, and several members of the Kardashian clan.
