A Nairobi man is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to assaulting his former girlfriend, claiming she ended their relationship to marry an older man.
Julius Wachira Marubu, a shopkeeper, admitted before the Makadara Law Courts that he attacked his former partner, M.M.M, on November 21 at her home in Dandora Phase 2, Njiru Sub-county, at around 9:30pm.
The court heard that the two had been in a relationship but separated due to unresolved differences.
The complainant later married another man, whom Marubu described as “old”, a detail that reportedly infuriated him and led him to believe he had been abandoned to make way for the new husband.
On the night of the incident, Marubu was in the area when he allegedly saw a man making a phone call outside the complainant’s gate.
He then saw his former partner open the gate for the man he believed was her husband.
Angered, he knocked at the gate, and when the complainant opened it, he forced his way in.
Armed with a rungu, he stormed into the house where he found the new husband relaxing.
Shortly after entering, the complainant followed him inside, at which point Marubu attacked her, inflicting injuries to her head, face and neck.
The new husband intervened, restraining Marubu and urging him to calm down and resolve the matter amicably.
The complainant later reported the incident to the police, leading to Marubu’s arrest.
He was arraigned in court, where he admitted the offence.
The case is scheduled to be mentioned on November 28, when the prosecution is expected to present the full facts before sentencing.
