Kibera woman appeals for help after husband allegedly swallows nail

A woman from Kibera Nairobi, named Joylet Andia, has made an emotional appeal for help after her husband allegedly swallowed a nail while at work, leaving him in severe pain and struggling to eat.

In a video shared online, while speaking at Jacaranda Bunge la Wananchi, the distressed woman narrated the ordeal, saying her husband accidentally swallowed the nail while carrying out his work as a carpenter.

“Bwana yangu alimeza msumari akitutafutia. Ni fundi wa mbao,” she said while appealing for assistance to help her husband access medical treatment.

According to Andia, her husband accidentally swallowed the nail while working, after which it became lodged in his throat.

“Siku moja kulipatikana tu na janga akameza kwa bahati mbaya na ikakwama hapa,” she narrated, pointing at her throat to demonstrate where the nail had become stuck.

She said the incident has affected her husband’s ability to eat, adding that the family sought medical attention after the incident.

According to her account, doctors performed an endoscopy and the medical report indicated that her husband required an operation to remove the foreign object.

However, Andia said the family has since struggled to secure the financial assistance needed to facilitate the procedure, despite seeking help from various offices and political leaders.

“Nilizunguka kwa bunge huko Kibera, mkiniona nimefika huku huko kumeshikana. Nikienda kwa mbunge yeyote wananipeleka tu hivi hivi,” she said.

She has now turned to the public and well-wishers, hoping they can help her husband access the treatment he needs.

The woman did not provide further details about the hospital where her husband was being treated, the exact cost of the operation or whether the nail had remained lodged in his throat throughout the period she described.

Her account has sparked reactions online, with some questioning the circumstances surrounding the delay in treatment and whether the family could have received assistance through existing medical services.

Others questioned why the family had reportedly waited for about three weeks while the man remained in need of treatment, particularly given the potential complications associated with a swallowed sharp object.

The family is now appealing for assistance as they seek to raise the funds required for the husband’s operation and medical care.
