Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai has landed himself in trouble after veteran media personality Fred Obachi Machoka filed a Sh60 million lawsuit against him over a defamatory social media post.
The dispute began when Alai, known for his provocative social media commentary, published a post making unsubstantiated claims about Machoka's health status and accusing him of tribalism.
Through his lawyer Danstan Omari, Machoka responded swiftly to the allegations, dismissing them as false, defamatory, and emotionally damaging.
In a statement, Omari also noted that "the plaintiff has been actively involved in the broadcast media industry for a period spanning forty-seven years, during which time they have distinguished themselves as a highly influential and respected figure cultivating a loyal and widespread following."
Machoka had previously issued a public demand for a retraction and apology within 48 hours, categorically denying the claims made about his health.
When Alai failed to retract his statement within the stipulated timeframe, Machoka proceeded to file the defamation lawsuit, arguing that the post was made with malicious intent to damage his reputation.
As part of the legal action, Machoka is seeking a court injunction to prevent Alai from making or sharing any further defamatory statements about him on any platform until the case is fully heard and resolved.
Fred Obachi Machoka, fondly known as "The Blackest Man in Black Africa," is a household name in Kenyan media with a career spanning over four decades.
