Heartbreaking video shows moment uncle threw 5-year-old girl from multi-storey Jacaranda Estate, Nairobi

A cloud of grief hangs over Jacaranda Gardens estate in Kahawa West following a horrifying incident that claimed the life of 5-year-old Amanda.

The tragedy unfolded at apartment C4-205 and has left neighbours shaken and Kenyans across the country in disbelief.

According to an official statement by the property manager, Lilian Gichuhi, the suspect, Amanda’s uncle, stormed into the house, overpowered the house girl, and snatched the child before throwing her from the second-floor balcony.

“The family in question resides in C4-205, and the individual involved is Amanda's uncle,” read the statement.

“He caused a commotion in the apartment where Baby Amanda and the house girl were present. He overpowered her and snatched the baby.”

Eyewitnesses said the man appeared to be intoxicated and was acting erratically. The house girl screamed for help, but before neighbours could intervene, the uncle had already hurled Amanda from the balcony.

In chilling videos recorded by neighbours, chaos erupts as the uncle is seen dangling from the balcony moments after Baby Amanda had landed on the cabro-paved floor below, unconscious and motionless.

Another disturbing clip shows the seemingly berserk man climbing down, picking up Amanda’s limp body, slamming her back on the ground, then carrying her on his shoulder like luggage as neighbours screamed in terror.

Security guards and neighbours rushed to the scene and managed to forcefully retrieve the baby from his grip.

Amanda was rushed to Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital (KUTRH), but sadly succumbed while receiving emergency treatment.

In the viral video, the suspect is heard mumbling incoherently:

“If those cameras show the reality, you people will know who I am. I know what I have done. I am a Kenyan. I want to be taken to court. I threw a doll, not my daughter.”

Guards and residents restrained him until police officers from Kiamumbi Police Station arrived. He was later taken to KUTRH for treatment of minor injuries before being handed over to the authorities.

The house girl has since recorded a statement, and the matter was transferred to Kahawa West Police Station.

“Kahawa West police responded promptly and took over the case. They proceeded to KU Referral for documentation before involving the DCI, who are now handling the investigation,” Lilian Gichuhi added.
