The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has imposed a hefty $50,000 fine (approximately Sh6.5 million) on the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) following "multiple safety and security breaches" during Kenya's TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) match against Morocco at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, on August 10, 2025.
The disciplinary action, announced on Wednesday, comes with a stern warning that failure to address these lapses could lead to the relocation of Kenya's national team matches to neighboring Uganda or Tanzania.
The CAF Disciplinary Board found Kenya guilty of significant security shortcomings during the high-stakes Group A encounter, which saw the Harambee Stars secure a surprising 1-0 victory over two-time CHAN champions Morocco.
The breaches included unauthorized access by ticketless spectators, overcrowding beyond the stadium's 48,000 capacity, and inadequate crowd control measures.
Reports from the match highlighted fans jumping over perimeter fences and storming gates, prompting the use of tear gas by police to manage the chaos.
In its ruling, CAF warned that continued failure to meet safety and security requirements could result in the relocation of Kenya's upcoming national team matches.
The federation has also advised the FKF to increase security within the stadium perimeter, ensure proper crowd management, and enforce road closures on match days to prevent further incidents.
The Disciplinary Board also found Morocco guilty of inappropriate conduct of its players and imposed a fine of USD 5,000 (approximately Sh674,000) of which USD 2,500 (approximately Sh323,000) is suspended on condition that no similar offence is committed during the remainder of CHAN 2024.
Zambia too were not spared as they were found guilty of breaching CAF's Media Regulations during the Match Day-1 Press Conference against Democratic Republic of Congo.

The fines are to be paid within 60 days of notification of the decision.
