A father and his son accused of defrauding an M-Pesa agent at Gikomba market have been arrested in Nairobi.
In an X post, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) announced the arrest of the duo.
“The curtain has fallen on a notorious father-and-son con team that has been milking M-Pesa shops dry in Nairobi’s Gikomba market,” DCI said.
The suspects, 49-year-old Peter Mwendwa Musyoka and his 23-year-old son, Dennis Musyoka, were arrested at their hideout in Komarock’s Nyama Villa estate after Shauri Moyo detectives traced them through digital footprints.
The fraud, according to police, was carried out on September 2, 2025, and left an M-Pesa shop in Gikomba short of Sh236,000.
During the raid, detectives seized several items linked to the scheme.
“At their residence, detectives recovered used and unused SIM cards, ID cards, agent and paybill numbers from Safaricom, Airtel and Telkom, as well as laptops and smartphones believed to have been used in the scheme,” the DCI said.
Investigations revealed that the father had groomed his son into the illegal trade.
“It has since been established that the father is the mastermind—introducing his son to the illicit trade and grooming him into conning unsuspecting M-Pesa operators,” the statement added.
The DCI noted that the two are part of a larger criminal syndicate targeting mobile money operators in Nairobi.
Both suspects are in custody and will be arraigned after processing, as detectives pursue other members of the ring.
