The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested two men after detectives uncovered an alleged fake juice production operation in Muthua, Kabete.

The suspects, identified as Alex Mwaruta and James Munala Inyangala, were arrested after detectives from Kabete Police Station raided a homestead following a tip-off from a member of the public.

According to the DCI, the two were found actively producing the suspected counterfeit juice when officers arrived at the compound.

A search of the property uncovered about 1,400 filled bottles of suspected fake juice, 56 cartons of empty bottles, five packets of bottle tops, two blue drums and three basins.

Detectives also recovered packaging materials and equipment, including office glue, rubber stamps, ink and assorted brand stickers.

An expired standardisation certificate bearing the name of a popular juice brand was also found at the premises, according to the DCI.

Officers further seized various chemical powders and liquids packed in 50-gramme polythene bags and small bottles.

Crime Scene Investigation officers processed the premises and secured the recovered items as evidence.

The two suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue.

The DCI said unregulated beverages produced in unhygienic conditions can pose health risks to consumers, while counterfeit products also affect legitimate businesses and government tax revenues.

“The DCI remains relentless in trailing down counterfeiters and dismantling the networks behind the trade,” the agency said.

The DCI urged members of the public to report suspected illegal activities anonymously through its toll-free hotline or WhatsApp number.
