Over the weekend, two of English football’s powerhouses locked horns at the Theatre of Dreams as high-flying Liverpool visited Manchester United in the Premier League.

As expected, the match drew a lot of interest from Kenyans, avid lovers of the EPL, who shared banter across different social media platforms.

State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed, a die-hard Liverpool fan, took to X to celebrate his team’s emphatic 3-0 win over the Red Devils but things quickly went south.

“You’ll Never Walk Alone!” wrote Mohamed, which is Liverpool’s slogan, borrowed from a ballad by Oscar Hammerstein II.

Liverpool fans always belt out the song's lyrics during their matches and it is common to see YNWA on posts by their fans.

Mohamed, however, faced the full wrath of Kenyans on X, who took the opportunity to criticise him and his master, President William Ruto.

The former journalist was a darling to many during his stint at Citizen TV and was regularly applauded for his hard-hitting questions to politicians.

However, ever since he made the shift to the other side, he has been a punching bag for the masses who jump on any little opportunity to remind him of the failures of the current regime and shortcomings of the Head of State.

On Monday, Mohamed said he had no ‘beef’ with those who castigated him, reiterating that his post was purely banter.

“Eh, Jameni! Hata football banter mnanilima tu? But bado nawapenda wote!

“Anyway, commiserations to my good Man United friends. The defeat was sobering. Mjipange next time! Good morning!” he wrote.
