Brian Kipkoech: Viral homeless Kenyan in Dubai reunites with family after returning home

After months of uncertainty and desperate pleas, Brian Kipkoech, the young man from Kericho who was captured homeless in Dubai, has finally returned to Kenya.

A viral video shared in early May showed Kipkoech in dirty clothes, appearing frail, disoriented and struggling on the streets.

The footage sparked an immediate uproar on social media as Kenyans questioned how a young man who left for greener pastures could end up in such a state.

Well-wishers quickly rallied to his aid, eventually securing an Emirates flight back home through Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

Kipkoech reportedly boarded the flight and landed safely on Thursday, May 7, at 2.30 pm.

His arrival marked an emotional end to an ordeal that had gripped the nation.

Another video has since resurfaced showing Kipkoech back in Kenya, looking healthy and neatly dressed.

In the clip, he is seen standing atop a Land Cruiser, waving and hugging supporters who turned up to welcome him.

Netizens flooded the comment sections with celebratory messages, though some used the moment to reflect on the plight of migrant workers.

One user, @patoreyang, remarked that the "Western world is not exactly a comfort zone but a modern slavery place for vulnerables."

Others took a lighter tone. @mr_marketofficial jokingly compared the return to a biblical homecoming, while @otinda254 praised the unity of Kenyans in times of crisis.

Kipkoech’s story mirrors that of many young people who travel to the Gulf in search of better opportunities, only to face harsh realities.

Reports indicate he travelled to Dubai with high hopes before his situation deteriorated.

While the exact details of his downfall remain unclear, he is said to have survived for months without shelter or a support system.

Public outrage sparked swift action after Kapsoit MCA Paul Chirchir issued a public appeal urging Kenyans in Dubai to trace and assist the young man.

The momentum grew after a group of Kenyans in the Gulf reportedly recovered his passport and coordinated the logistics for his repatriation.

Levai Levisky Levinsky also played a key role in the rescue after sharing the initial video that exposed Kipkoech’s dire condition.
