Nyamira County Assembly's Deputy Clerk and Director of Finance and Accounts, Leonard Kevin Nyamasege, has become the talk of social media after Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officers found him hiding in the ceiling of his house during an arrest operation.

A video of the dramatic incident has gone viral, with many Kenyans expressing disbelief at Nyamasege's move.

The footage shows Nyamasege's feet dangling through a hole in the ceiling as an EACC officer calmly helps him climb down, saying, "Usiumie, shuka polepole, kuja nakushikilia."

Another voice is heard in the background joking, "Na hiyo aibu yote... mtu wa Arsenal... hiyo time yote CCTV ikimulika ndio alikuwa anapanda."

Nyamasege eventually emerges wearing an Arsenal jersey, black trousers and no shoes.

In a statement, the EACC said Nyamasege was arrested over alleged procurement irregularities in the award of a tender for the construction of an office block at the Nyamira County Assembly.

According to the commission, investigations established that the contract was awarded to Jetta Builders Ltd despite the company not being the lowest evaluated bidder, allegedly conferring an undue financial benefit of Sh30,187,396 on the contractor.

"The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested the Deputy Clerk/Director, Finance and Accounts of the Nyamira County Assembly, Leonard Kevin Nyamasege, over alleged procurement irregularities in the award of a tender for the construction of an office block at the County Assembly of Nyamira," the commission said.

The EACC said it forwarded its investigation file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), which approved the prosecution of Nyamasege alongside five other suspects.

The suspects face charges including abuse of office, wilful failure to comply with the law relating to the management of public funds, and negligence of official duty.

Nyamasege was presented before Nyamira Law Courts on Tuesday before Principal Magistrate Christabel Agutu, with the case lined up for mention on July 28.

His arrest comes weeks after the commission apprehended Nyamira County Assembly Clerk Duke Simeon Onyari in connection with the same investigation.
