American singer, songwriter and internet personality Oliver Tree has died at the age of 32 following a tragic helicopter crash in Brazil.

According to reports from The Guardian, two helicopters collided in mid-air over Rio de Janeiro on Sunday morning before crashing in the city's western region.

The accident claimed the lives of all six people aboard the aircraft.

Authorities from Rio de Janeiro's military fire department said one of the helicopters came down on a car dealership, where multiple electric vehicles were parked.

The impact triggered a massive fire that was later brought under control by emergency responders, who noted that nearly 20 vehicles caught fire after the crash.

Officials have since launched an investigation to establish what caused the collision.

Tree, who was in Brazil as part of his ongoing world tour, was reportedly among the passengers aboard one of the helicopters.

A police source told AFP that while the victims have not yet been formally identified due to severe burn injuries, the musician's name appeared on the flight manifests released to investigators.

Other reported victims included Brazilian music producer Lucas Brito Chaves, Argentine video director Lucas Vignale, Argentine YouTuber Gaspar Prim, popularly known online as Gaspi, and pilots Alexandre Souza and Charles Marsillac.

The helicopters collided above Recreio dos Bandeirantes, a suburb in western Rio de Janeiro, before plunging into the parking area of the dealership.

One helicopter was carrying five occupants while the other had only the pilot on board, and emergency services confirmed there were no survivors.

Known for his signature bowl haircut and eccentric internet persona, Oliver Tree rose to international fame through hit songs such as "Life Goes On," "Miss You" and "Alien Boy."

The artist attracted a massive global audience, amassing more than 11 million monthly listeners on Spotify while several of his tracks accumulated hundreds of millions of streams.

At the time of the incident, Tree was undertaking an ambitious world tour featuring more than 70 performances across 30 countries on seven continents. He had recently performed in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on June 4 and shared a social media video on Saturday showing himself playing football in a Brazilian neighbourhood.

In 2024, he earned a Brit Award nomination for International Song alongside German producer Robin Schulz for their hit collaboration "Miss You," which reached No. 3 on the UK Singles Chart.

Beyond music, Tree was also known for his quirky stunts.

In 2020, he set a Guinness World Record with a giant kick scooter measuring 4.16 metres tall and 3.13 metres long, achieving the feat to "fulfil a lifelong dream."
