Tanzanian music superstar Diamond Platnumz is once again at the centre of public attention after singer Zuchu announced that their marriage has come to an end, closing another chapter in the Bongo Flava star's highly publicised love life.
The announcement came days before Diamond paid a heartfelt tribute to his mother, Sandra Kassim, during her birthday celebration, revealing that much of his wealth, including his houses, cars and businesses, is registered under her name.
Speaking at the celebration, the award-winning singer said his mother has been the foundation of his success and that everything he owns belongs to her.
"Changu ni chake," Diamond said, meaning, "What is mine is hers."
He explained that many of his assets are legally registered under his mother's name as a sign of the immense trust and gratitude he has for the woman who stood by him long before fame found him.
Diamond has frequently spoken about growing up in modest circumstances in Tandale, Dar es Salaam, where his mother encouraged him to pursue music despite financial struggles.
"Everything I have is because of her prayers and sacrifices," he told guests.
Today, the singer is among Africa's biggest entertainers, with investments that extend beyond music through Wasafi Classic Baby (WCB), Wasafi Media and several other businesses.
However, while Diamond's career has continued to flourish, his romantic relationships have often unfolded in the public eye. The latest breakup involves fellow Tanzanian singer Zuchu, whose real name is Zuhura Othman.
In an emotional statement shared on her Instagram Stories, Zuchu confirmed that she and Diamond had ended their marriage after six years together. She did not reveal what caused the separation but asked fans to respect her privacy as she focuses on healing." As for me, muda huu ni wa kupona na kufocus zaidi kwenye afya na kazi zangu," she wrote, saying this is a time to recover and focus on her health and career.
She ended the message with the Islamic prayer, "Hasbunallahu waniimal Wakiil," expressing her faith in God during the difficult period. Her announcement came just hours after Diamond's close friend and Tanzanian Member of Parliament Baba Levo claimed publicly that Zuchu is expecting a child. Neither Zuchu nor Diamond has commented on the pregnancy claims.
The pair reportedly married in a private ceremony last year after an on-and-off relationship that began in 2020. Throughout their romance, the couple frequently sparked speculation with public breakups, reconciliations and affectionate social media posts before eventually confirming they had tied the knot. As of now, Diamond has not publicly responded to Zuchu's announcement.
Before Zuchu, Diamond was in a high-profile relationship with Ugandan businesswoman and socialite Zari Hassan. The two began dating in 2014 after meeting in South Africa and quickly became one of East Africa's most talked-about celebrity couples.
They welcomed two children together, daughter Tiffah in 2015 and son Nillan in 2016. Their relationship lasted about four years before ending in February 2018. Zari announced the breakup through social media, saying she could no longer tolerate what she described as Diamond's repeated infidelity and lack of respect.
Although the split attracted enormous public attention, the two have since maintained a cordial co-parenting relationship and have occasionally praised each other for prioritising their children's wellbeing.
One of Diamond's earliest public romances was with Tanzanian actress and former Miss Tanzania Wema Sepetu. The pair dated on and off between around 2009 and 2014, making them one of Tanzania's most celebrity couples at the time. Their relationship faced constant media scrutiny, with recurring rumours of disagreements and reconciliations.
Following their eventual breakup, both admitted that misunderstandings, trust issues and the pressures of living in the public eye contributed to the end of their romance.
Despite the separation, Wema has repeatedly spoken positively about Diamond over the years, saying they have moved past their differences and remain respectful toward each other. Diamond's relationship with Tanzanian model and entrepreneur Hamisa Mobetto made headlines after it emerged that the two had a son together.
Their relationship reportedly began around 2014 but became widely known in 2017 when Hamisa confirmed Diamond was the father of her son, Dylan. The revelation generated significant controversy because Diamond was still publicly involved with Zari Hassan at the time. Following months of speculation, Diamond acknowledged paternity and apologised publicly.
The romantic relationship eventually ended, with Hamisa later saying they had chosen separate paths while focusing on raising their son. Over the years, the two have experienced periods of public disagreement before later improving their co-parenting relationship.
In 2018, Diamond began dating Kenyan singer and media personality Tanasha Donna. The relationship progressed rapidly, and in October 2019, they welcomed their son, Naseeb Junior. Fans expected the couple to marry, but by early 2020, reports of their separation had emerged.
Tanasha later suggested that differences in priorities and repeated disagreements contributed to the breakup, while rumours of infidelity also circulated, although neither party confirmed any claim.
Despite ending their romantic relationship after roughly two years together, Diamond and Tanasha have continued co-parenting their son and have occasionally reunited publicly during family moments.
Over the years, Diamond Platnumz has built a reputation not only as one of Africa's biggest music stars but also as one of the continent's most closely followed celebrities.
His relationships with Wema Sepetu, Zari Hassan, Hamisa Mobetto, Tanasha Donna and most recently Zuchu have consistently attracted widespread attention, often dominating entertainment headlines across East Africa.
Despite the public scrutiny surrounding his personal life, Diamond has continued to enjoy remarkable success professionally, releasing hit songs, expanding his Wasafi business empire and maintaining his position as one of Africa's most influential musicians.
