Tukutane Entertainment breaks silence months after fatal Nyayo Stadium stampede

By | June 18, 2026

Tukutane Entertainment has issued an official public statement since the death of a University student Karen Lojore, who died in a crowd crush during a concert held at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi in December 2025.

In the statement released nearly seven months after the incident, Chief Executive Officer Khalhani Sichangi expressed regret over the company’s silence, saying it was guided by respect for the family and the need to avoid interfering with investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

“We understand that many people expected more from us and we fell short, for this we are sincerely sorry,” the statement read in part.

“Our silence has been guided by respect for Her family and loved ones, as well as our responsibility not to interfere with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations' (DCI) efforts to independently and thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding Her passing,” it reads.

The company added that the period following Karen’s death had been marked by “profound sadness” for her family, friends, and all those affected.

Tukutane Entertainment said it has cooperated with authorities since the incident and continues to provide information where required, emphasizing its commitment to ensuring that “the truth is established and that accountability and justice are achieved.”

They further stated that it would refrain from making additional public comments until investigations are concluded, citing respect for due process and the sensitivity of the matter.

Karen Lojore, a second-year student at Daystar University, died following a fatal stampede that occurred as thousands of concertgoers attempted to access the stadium amid heavy congestion, long queues, and adverse weather conditions.

The incident quickly escalated into chaos near entry points, resulting in a deadly surge.

The tragedy sparked widespread public outrage, with attendees and members of the public criticizing event planning, crowd management, and ticketing systems.

The backlash extended to social media and public forums, with calls for accountability from organizers.

Following the incident, international Afrobeats artist Asake, who was among the headline performers, also expressed grief over the loss and called for those responsible to be held accountable.

He issued a statement in December 2025 condoling with the family of Karen.

"My heart goes out to the family, friends, and loved ones of Karen Lojore, and I pledge to support and do my best to understand what happened. Those responsible should be held accountable," Asake said.

He expressed disappointment over the incident, saying; "Music has always been my way of sharing love and joy, and it breaks my heart that anyone had to experience such loss."
