Two detained for 10 days over robbery of city boda boda rider
A magistrate at the Makadara Law Courts has granted police a 10-day custodial order to detain two suspects over a violent robbery that left a boda boda rider critically injured.

A magistrate at the Makadara Law Courts has granted police a 10-day custodial order to detain two suspects over a violent robbery that left a boda boda rider critically injured.

Benson Mutiso Muema and Moses Kavita Michael are under investigation for robbery with violence under aggravated circumstances, including the alleged use of a knife.

The incident was reported by the victim, Kennedy Owiye, a boda boda operator based in Eastleigh, at Mombasa Road Police Station.

According to police, the attack occurred at about 4.00am on February 14, 2026, when Owiye was approached by a passenger who requested to be taken to South B. Upon arrival, the passenger allegedly turned on him and stabbed him multiple times in the neck, shoulders and ribs in an attempt to steal his red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number KMGU 054Y.

Owiye raised the alarm, prompting the assailant to flee. Despite his injuries, he managed to ride towards the Cabanas area before reaching the KPA Gate B vicinity near Kyang’ombe, close to Scion Hospital in Imara Daima, where he became severely distressed.

A fellow boda boda rider came to his assistance and escorted him to Scion Hospital. Owing to the severity of his injuries, Owiye was later referred to Kenyatta National Hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition.

While at Scion Hospital, Owiye asked another rider, Mong’are, to secure his motorcycle by taking it to the nearest police station for safekeeping.

However, on returning to the KPA Gate B area, Mong’are discovered that the motorcycle was missing. Local residents reportedly informed him that Muema and Michael had taken the vehicle to an unknown location.

The matter was reported at Mombasa Road Police Station under Occurrence Book number 16/14/02/2026. Officers led by Police Constable Thomas Onduso conducted a raid in the KPA Gate B informal settlement, where they recovered the motorcycle parked nearby.

During a search, police recovered the ignition key to the Bajaj Boxer motorcycle from Kavita’s pocket.

In an affidavit supporting the application for custodial remand, PC Onduso detailed the ongoing investigations, including recording the complainant’s statement, completing a P3 medical examination form with a police doctor, reviewing the motorcycle’s tracking history for the date of the incident and taking statements from witnesses.

Senior Resident Magistrate Wandia Nyamu granted police additional time to hold the suspects to allow for further investigations.

The case will be mentioned on February 2 for further directions.
