PHOTOS: Kindiki gifts bishop Toyota Prado, announces millions in pledges

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki donated a Toyota Prado to a Methodist Church bishop during a thanksgiving and fundraising service in Meru County on Sunday, July 12.

Kindiki presented the vehicle during the Worship and Thanksgiving Service organised by the Methodist Church's Abothuguchi Synod, saying it would help the bishop carry out her ministry and travel more easily while serving congregants across the region.

"Nimeleta gari ya askofu, sasa hiyo ndiyo gari ya askofu hapo. Peleka hapo," Kindiki said.

He said the donation was intended to support the bishop's pastoral work and strengthen the church's outreach within the synod.

"Tunataka hii gari ipatie wewe, familia yako na waumini wote wa Synod ya Abothuguchi huduma nzuri, huduma ambayo itasaidia kukuza moyo yetu na Ukristo wetu," he said.

The event also featured a fundraiser for the construction of the Abothuguchi Synod headquarters in Kirigara. Kindiki said it was one of two major church projects underway in the region, alongside the construction of a cathedral in Laare, Nyambene.

"Leo ni siku ya kukusanya pesa ya kuanza Synod headquarters hapa Kirigara. Na hiyo kazi tunaifanya saa hii," he said.

During the fundraiser, Kindiki announced several financial pledges on behalf of leaders attending the event.

He committed Sh5 million from President William Ruto, Sh2 million from Meru Governor Isaac Mutuma, Sh2 million from Water Cabinet Secretary Eric Mugaa, and Sh500,000 each from nominated MP Dorothy Muthoni and Meru Woman Representative Elizabeth Kailemia.

He also directed the host, MP Kirima, to contribute Sh500,000 towards the project. Kindiki clarified that the amounts reflected his own decision on behalf of the leaders and were not necessarily figures they had proposed individually.

The Deputy President also recognised MCA Mwenda Ithili, who is seeking a Senate seat. Although Ithili initially offered Sh10,000 in cash, Kindiki increased the contribution to Sh200,000.

Kindiki praised Bishop Dorin's leadership, describing her as an inspiration to young girls and women aspiring to leadership positions.

"We are very proud of her as our leader, as our bishop. She is a good encouragement to our girls, our children, and our daughters that there is no difference between our sons and daughters. They are all created equal," he said.
