Brazilian fan breaks down in tears after surprise encounter with Eliud Kipchoge

A devoted fan of Kenyan marathon icon Eliud Kipchoge, broke down in tears after an unexpected street encounter with the long-distance legend during his visit to Brazil.

Kipchoge, is in Brazil ahead of the NB42K Porto Alegre Marathon, which is part of his seven-continent marathon tour, was captured in a heartwarming clip shared on his social channels.

The footage, shot in what looked like the dim light of an early morning or late evening run, shows Kipchoge dressed in a dark athletic jacket as he warmly greets the emotional runner.

The fan, overcome with emotion, approaches Kipchoge holding a white running jacket and a marker. Her voice trembling, she repeatedly pleads, “I love you so much, please, please,” as the marathon pauses to sign the jacket.

Kipchoge patiently and kindly agreed, taking the marker and scrawling his autograph on the jacket. The simple act of signing sent the fan into deeper tears. She pressed the jacket to her chest, and the two embraced in a brief hug.

Between sobs and hurried breaths she kept thanking him: “I love you so much. Thank you, God.”

The scene captures the profound connection between elite athletes and the people they inspire, globally.

For Kipchoge, known for his humility and grace off the track as well as his record-breaking performances on it, the encounter showed his humility despite international fame.

The clip concluded with the fan walking away clutching her newly signed jacket, still emotional, while Kipchoge continued his preparations for the Porto Alegre race.

Netizens chimed in, @bobotev, said, “our goat” and @davie_10, said, “After Messi is Kipchoge”
