Andrew Tate, brother Tristan arrested in US over 38 new UK charges

Controversial influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan have been arrested in the United States after British authorities filed 38 new criminal charges against them.

The UK's Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said Andrew Tate faces seven additional counts of rape, alongside charges related to sex trafficking and possessing indecent images of a child.

According to CNN, Tristan Tate has been charged with two counts of rape and three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation.

The new charges bring the total against the brothers to 59. Andrew, 39, now faces 42 charges in the UK, while Tristan, 37, faces 17.

The alleged offences took place between July 2010 and August 2017. Both brothers deny all wrongdoing.

Following their arrest, prosecutors will begin extradition proceedings to return the dual British-US citizens to the UK, the CPS confirmed.

"These charging decisions followed receipt of a further file of evidence from Bedfordshire Police and bring the total number of alleged victims in this case to seven," said Malcolm McHaffie, Head of the CPS Special Crime Division.

Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire police described the case as a complex investigation involving multiple alleged offences.

The US Marshals confirmed the brothers were taken into custody, while a US Department of Justice spokesperson said the arrests were made pursuant to extradition proceedings.

The Tates' lawyer, Joseph McBride, maintained their innocence, describing the new charges as a political hit intended to undermine a defamation lawsuit the brothers filed in the US.

"The world knows Andrew and Tristan are innocent," McBride said. "We are confident that once a competent judge sees the facts, Andrew and Tristan Tate will walk free. America does not do Britain's political dirty work."

In 2024, Bedfordshire Police secured European arrest warrants seeking the brothers' return from Romania, where they remain under criminal investigation.

In June, the pair lost a legal bid to uncover the identities of their UK accusers after the CPS ruled their names should remain confidential.

Lawyer Matt Jury, who represents several alleged British victims, welcomed the charges.

"Andrew and Tristan Tate are accused of some of the most serious offences," he said. "It is time they face justice."

Andrew Tate's views on women have drawn widespread condemnation, with critics arguing his online influence promotes harmful stereotypes and contributes to the radicalisation of young men.
