Former Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen has had a rough number of weeks after he appeared to flaunt some of his prized possessions on Obinna’s show.

He mentioned a watch worth Sh900,000, a belt costing between Sh40,000 to Sh50,000, shoes worth Sh70,000 to Sh80,000, and a tie costing Sh20,000.

Murkomen tried to downplay his wealth, saying he only needed one belt every two years and that it could be worn on either side to give the impression of owning two belts.

He also advised the host, Obinna, to buy one belt worth Sh50,000 that can be worn on both sides.

“Black on one side and brown on the other side. When you turn it, people think you have two belts,” he said.

What followed was a barrage of attacks on social media, as Kenyans called him out for displaying opulence at a time when many were struggling to put food on their tables.

He was then axed by President William Ruto, who sent home his entire cabinet, in a bid to start afresh and steer the country in the right direction.

Murkomen was mocked and trolled, some even saying he would not get a County Assembly seat in his backyard.

Well, on Wednesday, he was given a second bite at the cherry after Ruto nominated him as Youth Affairs and Sports CS.

He was swift to thank his master for giving him a chance to serve the people of Kenya, this time carefully choosing his words lest he faced the wrath of KOX (Kenyans on X).

“Honoured and grateful to have been nominated by H.E. the President @WilliamsRuto as the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports.

Thank you, Mr. President, for this incredible opportunity to serve our great nation, Kenya,” he wrote.

Murkomen then shared that he had used the past few weeks to reflect on his two years in government and was remorseful for his words and deeds that might have offended the masses.

He pledged to turn over a new leaf and serve the nation with utmost diligence, subject to approval by parliament.

“The last two weeks have been moments of deep reflection. I would like to unreservedly apologise to every Kenyan who I may have offended through my words, my deeds and my conduct, including my lifestyle, in the last two years of my public service.

“Subject to my approval by Parliament, I pledge to serve the people of Kenya diligently, with great humility and unwavering accountability. Thank you very much. God bless you and God bless Kenya,” he wrote.
