A clip from a Kenyan divorce hearing has tickled netizens after capturing an emotional exchange between a couple appearing in court virtually to finalise their separation.

The video, which has been widely shared on social media, shows a magistrate presiding over a virtual session as the husband and wife address issues linked to their divorce petition.

At the start of the hearing, the magistrate acknowledged the sensitivity of such cases, noting, “Handling divorce matters is not easy.”

During proceedings, the court sought to establish how much time the wife needed before fully responding to the divorce petition.

In her response, she asked for more time, saying, “I need like two months and pledged to meet my husband if possible."

She told the court she was still emotionally attached and hoped for a final conversation before the matter proceeded, expressing optimism that reconciliation might still be possible.

The magistrate clarified that his role was strictly procedural and not to mediate the relationship.

“Mimi ni muongeleshe yeye muendelee kupendana, mimi sio pastor,” he said.

He further advised her to raise the matter directly with her husband when the case returns to court, adding, “Kuja uongeleshe yeye ile siku tuatafanya kesi.”

Despite the divorce proceedings, the woman maintained she was not ready to end the marriage, saying her feelings had not changed.

“I thought tunapendana, tafadhali kama atakuskia,” she said.

Her husband, identified as Benson, told the court he had already spent significant time trying to resolve their issues without success.

“Hilo halitawezekana kwasababu nilichukua mwaka moja na unusu kuongea na yeye kutatua shida amabayo halikutatulika,” he said.

The exchange has since sparked viral reactions online, with users reflecting on the emotional weight of divorce proceedings.
