A dramatic rescue operation in Kiuu, Githurai, led to the arrest of several suspects linked to the kidnapping of a two-year-old child, bringing a three-day ordeal to an end.

The breakthrough came after CCTV footage captured a 15-year-old girl luring the toddler away.

In the video, she is seen wearing a red hoodie, black cap and trousers. She was later identified and confronted by the child’s parents and residents.

The confrontation escalated, and the teenager was arrested and taken to Kiuu Police Station, according to a report by Odee Francis.

While in custody, she allegedly confessed to the child’s location and led officers to the scene.

Upon arrival, police found several children playing outside the premises.

The abducted toddler was recovered nearby, and a second suspect at the location was also arrested.

The operation ended a three-day search that had left the child’s family distressed and uncertain.

Investigators say the 15-year-old later claimed she had been acting under instructions from two individuals, who allegedly promised a mobile phone in exchange for carrying out the abduction.

“Huyu ndio Fulu alinituma anafanyanga kazi hapo Raunda, na Mose walinituma niwaletee mtoto halafu atanipatia simu,” she said after her arrest.

From the footage seen by TNX Africa, it remains unclear whether the abductors were rewarding her with a phone or returning one that belonged to her.

However, she remains in custody at Githurai Police Station as investigations continue into a suspected wider abduction network.

The incident has heightened concerns over rising child kidnappings in the country.

According to the State Department for Children Services, 1,952 cases were reported between January 2025 and March 2026, averaging about four children missing per day.

On social media, Kenyans expressed mixed reactions. On X, Sapphire wrote: “I'm glad they found her. Praying they didn't do anything diabolical to this little angel.”

Another user, Karanja, said: “The NPS and other investigative agencies should do more because this cases are getting out of hand.”
