A Nairobi man has been charged in court after allegedly attacking a woman who rejected his romantic advances, in an incident that left her injured.
Court documents state that Kimathi Macharia assaulted V.A., a nail technician, on June 4, 2026 in the Chokaa area of Njiru Sub-County, Nairobi County.
The complainant was walking home at about 9:30pm when she was allegedly confronted by Macharia, who had earlier proposed a relationship which she declined.
Angered by her refusal, he is said to have demanded an explanation before she walked away.
Prosecutors allege that Macharia, who was carrying alcohol, poured it over her head and body before grabbing her, forcing her to the ground, and repeatedly kicking and punching her.
A friend who attempted to intervene was reportedly unable to stop the attack.
The assault only ended after members of the public intervened and chased the suspect away.
They later assisted the victim in receiving first aid at a nearby health facility before she reported the matter to police.
Macharia was subsequently arrested and charged with assault causing actual bodily harm.
He denied the charge when he appeared in court.
The court granted him cash bail of Sh20,000, and the matter is scheduled for hearing on September 17, 2026.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing as authorities examine witness accounts and medical reports linked to the alleged assault.
