Frankie Dee: I was arrested during my first visit to Nairobi

Frankie Dee, a recording and performing AfroDancehall and Reggae artist from Mombasa, started his music career at a young age, while at a local church.

Frankie, who has won several awards in the Coastal region where he has been crowned the 'Dancehall Beast', has been featured in international riddims alongside the likes of Busy Signal, and Charly BlackSpice, among others.

The triple award winner got a significant breakthrough in 2016 with a dancehall refix of the then-big song Zigo by Diamond and Ay, which became controversial, leading to Wasafi camp striking it off YouTube.

“Since then, I have had major highlights, including getting international nominations and breaking through the Ethiopian and Djibouti market. I have also toured Europe twice and will possibly be going back next year,” he says.

Hailing from Mombasa, Frankie Dee's first visit to Nairobi was eventful as he was arrested and put behind bars for what he says was a case of mistaken identity.

“I had made the trip to Nairobi for a radio interview when everything came tumbling down. I was heading to the radio station when I was arrested. Out of nowhere, police pounced on me claiming I was a Nigerian. I tried to explain myself, but they didn’t listen to me,” he said.

Frankie says he was taken to a certain police station where he stayed for some time until the issue was sorted out. That is how he missed the radio interview.

“This was just one of the many instances people have thought I am Nigerian," he says.

Borrowing his craft majorly from Jamaican Star Busy Signal because of his flexibility across different music genres, Frankie Dee released his latest project, 'Eye Red' earlier this week.

"Eye Red" showcases his versatility as an artist, with a fusion of dancehall rhythms and catchy melodies.

This project is a testament to his dedication and passion for creating music that resonates with his fans. So, get ready to immerse yourself in the world of Frankie Dee's "Eye Red" as he takes you on a musical journey.
