PHOTOS: Waiguru welcomes daughter-in-law Yvonne after son's lavish 'Ngurario' ceremony

Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru is celebrating a special family milestone after her son, Don, officially tied the knot with his longtime partner, Yvonne, in a colourful traditional Ngurario ceremony.

The governor shared photos from the elegant celebration on social media, giving Kenyans a glimpse of the intimate event attended by close family and friends.

The ceremony was held at a beautifully decorated venue featuring golden tan drapes, floral arrangements and customised signage bearing the names "Yvonne & Don." Traditional rattan peacock chairs completed the setting, blending cultural heritage with modern elegance.

Don wore a chocolate brown suit accented with patterned traditional fabric on the shoulders and cuffs, adding a cultural touch to his formal look.

Yvonne stunned in a fitted brown gown paired with a patterned traditional wrap and matching headpiece that reflected the significance of the ceremony.

Waiguru embraced the traditional theme in a flowing orange outfit with a patterned maxi skirt.

Another guest complemented the colour palette in a red embroidered shirt, khaki trousers and a tan fedora, accessorised with a traditional kiondo bag.

Sharing photos from the celebration, Waiguru expressed her joy as her son reached the important milestone and warmly welcomed Yvonne into the family.

"Congratulations, our son Don, and our daughter Yvonne, on your Ngurario. Some moments stay with a mother forever, and today is one of them. Seeing you both come together in love and commitment fills our hearts with immense joy and gratitude," she wrote.

She encouraged the couple to build their marriage on love, respect, faith and kindness.

"May the values that brought you here, love, respect, faith, and kindness continue to guide you, and may you always choose each other as you begin this new chapter," she added.

Waiguru also welcomed Yvonne into the family and said she was looking forward to the couple's white wedding.

"Yvonne, welcome warmly into our family. We are blessed to have you, and we look forward to sharing this journey with you both. We love you dearly and look forward to the wedding. Harusi tunayo!" she concluded.
