Leading a nation is no small feat, and Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu, the first female president in East Africa, is renowned for her no-nonsense approach to politics and governance.

However, many have yet to see the more personal side of the mother of four. A recently surfaced video shows President Suluhu in the kitchen, preparing a meal.

Typically, presidents do not cook their own meals, making the video all the more unique. In the footage, hosted by Mariam, the president remarks that she hasn’t forgotten how to cook. She tastes the dish, then notes that it would taste even better with a hint of lime.

The video has since gone viral, with many celebrating her culinary skills. Among those joining the praise is popular gospel singer Christina Shusho, who expressed her admiration on X (formerly Twitter).

"My President can cook! Over to you, studio," Shusho posted.

President Suluhu, currently in China for the ninth Forum on China-Africa Cooperation Summit, is married to Hafidh Ameir. As the saying goes, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree—her daughter, Wanu Hafidh Ameir, is following in her mother’s footsteps in politics and currently serves as a member of the Zanzibar House of Representatives.
