Nigerian Meth suspect denied bail for second time over flight risk concerns

A Nigerian national held for two years over alleged involvement in an international drug trafficking syndicate has been denied bail for a second time.

High Court Justice D. Kavedza dismissed a revision application, upholding the lower court’s decision to keep Ojukwu Agwu, alias Pastor, in custody.

The court said he poses a flight risk due to unverified residence in Kenya and alleged attempt to flee during arrest. He faces charges including operating a clandestine meth lab, possession of precursor chemicals, money laundering, illegal stay and conspiracy.

Prosecutors allege he masterminded a Namanga methamphetamine laboratory linked to Mexican cartels and other international networks.

He was arrested at JKIA on October 3, 2024 while attempting to board a flight to Nigeria after a stop order. Authorities recovered documents including construction plans and land title deeds linked to the alleged facility.

Justice Kavedza ruled that his uncertain residence and lack of verified ties in Kenya increased the risk of absconding. Accordingly the bail revision application was dismissed and he remains in custody awaiting trial in Nairobi court.
