Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi has posted a video on social media platform X addressing the recent violent protests in Eldoret, which led to significant property damage and looting.

In the video, Sudi voiced his disappointment on the issue, particularly noting the involvement of people from the Kalenjin community.

"I want to say two or three things to the Kalenjin nation. One, since I was born, I have known construction - be it a classroom, church, or business. I have never thought of destroying someone else's property. What happened yesterday; the destruction of property, including a court in the County and the looting of Timba, was shameful," said Sudi.

He apologised, saying, "Sorry to all, first of all, because those who led in the destruction were Kalenjin. God does not sleep."

Known for his philanthropic efforts, Sudi highlighted his commitment to helping the poor and orphans, and his history of building churches and initiating various projects.

"My duty is to stand with the poor and orphans; I have built churches and initiated several projects," he said.

He acknowledged that the organisers and leaders of the destructive activities were Kalenjin, adding, "I am not saying anything bad, but since it has turned into war I have suspended all scheduled activities until further notice."

The protests, which started as a peaceful demonstration by Gen-Z, escalated into chaos, resulting in the vandalism and looting of Timber XO, a multi-million shilling club owned by Sudi in Eldoret town.

Protesters were seen stealing liquor and destroying the building’s glass walls, windows, and doors.

The violence also extended to public properties, with the county court and enforcement offices in Eldoret being set on fire, including several vehicles.

In his video caption, Sudi lamented the events: "What transpired on Tuesday, which followed an otherwise peaceful protest by Gen-Z, is unfortunate. However, the magnitude of loss of lives, looting, and property destruction that happened is appalling and it negates the spirit of our constitution.

He added, “I've never organised or ill-wished my political competitors and it's shocking they took advantage of innocent youth, turning a peaceful protest into havoc. Following the mayhem, I've forthwith suspended all my political activities and I'm defenceless to protect all my properties."
