Defence CS Aden Duale on Wednesday said President William Ruto is a workaholic who does not drink and is trying to change the country.

Speaking on JKLive, Duale said drinking is bad for leaders as it limits their ability to run the affairs of a nation.

He added that those saying #RutoMustGo are yet to come to terms with the fact that he is the head of state.

“Ruto works from 6 am to midnight, he doesn’t drink. Drinking is bad for leaders, if you overdrink you cannot run the affairs of the state.

“The ones who are saying #RutoMustGo are the same people who were saying before the elections Ruto will not become the President and they have not recovered from that Ruto is now the President and Ruto is changing the country,” he said.

Duale said the President had listened to the demands of Gen Z hence his decision to withdraw the Finance Bill and he was willing to engage in dialogue to map the way forward.

He, however, said some politicians were trying to hijack the movement to remain relevant but it would not bear fruit.

“The #RutoMustGo slogan is not a Gen Z slogan, it is Kalonzo Musyoka, it is Kioni, it is Miguna. It is the traditional group of people who are not Gen Zs, who have not recovered and who cannot wait for 2027 and they even feel because Baba is going to AU, they have no chance in 2027.

“There are many people who are not happy, they never expected William Ruto to remove the country from the mess they put it in 2022,” he said.

Duale said despite the numerous complaints by Kenyans, Ruto has delivered and the price of food and fuel has gone down.

He added that the president consults far and wide before making decisions, contrary to popular belief that he bulldozes his way.

“The people who are saying Zakayo ashuke, ashuke kutoka wapi? Amepanda wapi? Zakayo has delivered, he has brought down food and fuel prices, inflation is at 1%, farmers are happy. On the Finance Bill, the President consulted far and wide,” he said.

Asked whether he would step aside if he is listed among non-performing CSs, Duale said he was ready to do so for the greater good of the nation.

“If the President feels I have let him down as a Minister of Defence, I want him to do the right thing, not only start with me and all the rest who have let him down, in the interest of the Kenyans and tell us to step aside…I am ready,” he said.
