TikTok removes 884k videos, 49k underage Kenyan accounts over guideline violations

TikTok removed more than 884,000 videos in Kenya during the first quarter of 2026 for violating its Community Guidelines, as the platform stepped up efforts to make the app safer for users.

According to TikTok's latest Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, 884,591 videos were taken down in Kenya between January and March 2026. 

Of these, 99.7 per cent were detected and removed proactively before users reported them, while 96.3 per cent were taken down within 24 hours of being uploaded.

The report also shows that TikTok deleted 48,739 accounts suspected to belong to users under the age of 13, reinforcing the platform's efforts to protect children and enforce its minimum age requirement.

"TikTok remains committed to creating a safe, welcoming and trusted digital space for everyone. We continue to invest in technology, moderation systems and safety teams to detect and remove content that violates our Community Guidelines as quickly as possible," the company said.

Beyond video moderation, TikTok said it is strengthening the safety of TikTok LIVE through continued investment in technology and industry partnerships.

In Kenya, the platform interrupted 103,847 LIVE sessions found to have violated its guidelines.

Globally, TikTok took enforcement action, including warnings and demonetisation, against 58.2 million LIVE sessions and nearly 22 million creators for breaching LIVE monetisation policies.

The report also highlights TikTok's efforts to improve transparency around artificial intelligence-generated content. 

The company said it bans harmful or misleading AI-generated material and requires creators to label realistic AI-generated content. 

During the quarter, 14,261 videos were removed worldwide under its policy covering edited media and AI-generated content.

Worldwide, TikTok removed 184 million videos during the reporting period, representing about 0.5 per cent of all uploads. 

More than 178 million were detected through automated moderation systems, while 8.8 million videos were reinstated after further review.

TikTok said the latest figures reflect its continued investment in technology, transparency and partnerships aimed at keeping its community safe while responding quickly to emerging online risks.
