Learning in public universities was paralysed for the second day on Thursday, even as courts issued a second order barring non-teaching staff from staging work boycotts
Lectures in public universities across the country have been disrupted after the Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) and the Kenya Universities Staff Union (KUSU) began a nationwide strike.
Unions were created to balance power between employers and employees. Workers in Africa were once treated as slaves.
Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) and the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) are united in rejecting the method used by the employer to promote teachers.
The main reasons for the creation of unions were to fight discrimination, secure representation, advocacy, information and advice to members and member service delivery.
Kuppet is accusing the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and the Ministry of Education of failure to listen to their grievances.
