College of Insurance Chief Executive Officer Ben Kajwang has been named the Best-Performing CEO at the 2026 BOBEA Leadership Awards
The accolade was in recognition of his two decades of service in insurance practice, reinsurance, academia, and regional policy development
The award places him alongside fellow corporate and social leaders recognised at the same event, including Kenyan human rights lawyer Anita Nyanjong, who received the BOBEA Community Leadership Award for her 17-year career in women's rights and legal reform.
While Nyanjong was feted for grassroots empowerment and judicial resource development, Kajwang's recognition was for institutional transformation and professional skills standardisation across Africa
During his tenure at the College of Insurance, Kajwang has updated the institution's curriculum to address digital transformation and emerging risks within the financial sector
He also managed the development of The Edge Hotel and Convention Centre, a facility that hosted the 48th African Insurance Organisation (AIO) Conference and General Assembly
He has also overseen the publication of more than 25 educational materials for risk management and insurance studies
His regional work includes a past term as President of the AIO between 2022 and 2023, as well as a nine-year chairmanship of the Association of Insurance Trainers and Educators in Africa
Kajwang has directed curriculum development and professional certification programs in Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and Malawi through partnerships with agencies like the World Bank and USAID
Locally, his initiatives include the Executive Certificate of Proficiency in Insurance, which has enrolled over 5,500 participants across Kenya's 47 counties, and an insurance literacy program for more than 1,500 traffic police officers
