VIDEO: Nakuru police officer opens fire on fleeing suspected stolen car in dramatic scene

A dramatic scene unfolded in Nakuru near Shiners Boys High School when a police officer opened fire in an attempt to stop a suspected stolen vehicle along the busy Nairobi-Nakuru highway.

According to reports, the driver was attempting to evade arrest after the vehicle had been flagged as stolen.

Footage seen by TNX Africa showed an officer in the official blue uniform discharging his firearm in an effort to stop the fleeing suspect.

Before the incident, the officer is seen standing by the roadside with a device held to his ear, perhaps in communication with other officers along the route.

As the white Toyota Alphard neared, he moved to the side of the road and signalled it to stop.

However, the driver defiantly failed to comply and continued driving, leaving the officer to fire several shots at the vehicle as it sped away.

The gunshots triggered panic among onlookers, who scattered for safety, while a woman could be heard screaming in the background.

Moments later, the officer was seen running in the direction the vehicle had taken before the clip ended.

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on whether anyone was injured or if any arrests were made.

As of Monday evening, unverifiable communication said to be coming from police insiders was circulating on X, confirming the narrative that the car was stolen and confirming the apprehension of the suspects.

"The officer managed to immobilise the car thief. The driver was not killed; he managed to drive from the scene but was followed and apprehended in the vicinity area around shinners boys. The car had been reported stolen," read one such report.

The incident sparked debate online, with social media users offering varying accounts of what happened.

On X, Athman wrote: “That's my home area near Shiners Boys. Walikua wezi wa gari apparently.”

Another user, Prince Gitau, claimed: “Probably robbers or car thieves. They were apprehended at Barnabas after a tyre burst, according to witnesses.”
