British pop singer Lily Allen recently opened up about the impact of motherhood on her career during an interview on the Radio Times podcast.

The singer humorously said that her children "ruined" her career, although she clarified that she loves them and finds them fulfilling.

"I never really have a strategy when it comes to career, but yes, my children ruined my career,” she said, adding, "I mean I love them and they complete me, but in terms of pop stardom, totally ruined it."

Expressing frustration with the notion of "having it all," Allen said, "It really annoys me when people say you can have it all because, quite frankly, you can’t."

She acknowledged that some individuals prioritize their careers over their children, and she respects their choice.

The 38-year-old singer, who shares two daughters with ex-husband Sam Cooper, decided to step back from her career to focus on motherhood.

She explained that her decision was influenced by her own childhood experiences, noting that her parents, actor Keith Allen and film producer Alison Owen, were often absent during her upbringing.

Reflecting on her upbringing, Allen remarked, "I feel like that really left some nasty scars that I’m not willing to repeat [on my children]."

Opting to prioritize her daughters' well-being, she chose to step back from her career.

She expressed satisfaction with her decision, stating, "I’m glad that I have done that because I think they’re pretty well-rounded people."

With most of her success concentrated in the UK, Allen has achieved three number one hits and 15 Top 40 singles.

Her debut album "Alright Still," featuring tracks like "Smile" and "LDN," propelled her to fame and earned her a nomination for Best Alternative Music Album at the 2008 Grammy Awards.
