The flowers have started to wilt and the chocolate’s gone stale, the dress is stained as it sits on top of the washing machine. The rose petals once organized in the shape of love hearts are now scattered everywhere with no direction, they must’ve gotten the hint from the empty bottles of wine and the lipstick-stained wine glass that the much-hyped and profitable day of the lovers is over.

It’s a new day and now the excitement moves from the romantic night to the Instagram feeds to compare. The thirsty eyes log on to see “who got what from who” and the comparisons begin which make it a show for the rest of us AKA “The valentines less”

Since the beginning of social media love stories, Valentine’s Day has been the main event it’s always been a battle of who can have the flashiest Valentine post, “Who's getting what”, “who’s been gifted what” “Who’s loved more etc.

Holidays, especially Valentine's usually bring out fierce competition mostly among ladies who flaunt their gifts. From massive bouquets to luxury cars, February 14th is a dream for the sellers’ market.

Valentine's Day symbols that are used today include the heart-shaped outline, doves, and the figure of the winged Cupid.

However, now it seems to have taken a new turn to couples trying to outdo each other with big expressions of love on the day just to make a big splash.

This one day where you express your love to your loved one has turned into a game of who can do it bigger and has kind of lost touch on the traditional concept of Valentine's which started rather deeply to commemorate the martyr Saint Valentine who was banned from performing marriages.

And now as the echoes of Valentine's Day fade into the background, a quiet melancholy settles in the air, casting a shadow over the once-vibrant festivities. The roses, once vibrant symbols of passion, now wilt with a sense of resignation, their petals scattered and forgotten. The remnants of decadent chocolates, once savoured with delight, now linger as bittersweet reminders of transient indulgence. And the carefully chosen gifts, once exchanged with promises of eternal affection, now sit quietly, their significance waning with each passing moment.

In the aftermath of the celebration, a subtle shift occurs, as reality gently nudges its way back into focus. The grand gestures and declarations of love, so boldly proclaimed on social media, now seem faint and distant, their fleeting nature laid bare.

For some, the post-Valentine's blues settle like a heavy fog, casting doubt upon the authenticity of the affection once professed. It's a time when the spotlight dims, and the pressure to perform gives way to a quiet introspection. The comparisons and competitions that once defined the day now feel hollow and insignificant, as the true essence of love transcends material gestures and fleeting moments of grandeur.

Yet, amidst the melancholy, there is beauty to be found in the quiet moments of reflection. It's a time to cherish the memories shared, to savor the simple joys of companionship, and to rediscover the depth of love beyond the confines of a single day.

So, as the post-Valentine's blues linger in the air, let us embrace the bittersweet beauty of love's aftermath. For it is in the quiet moments of reflection that we find the truest expressions of the heart.
