A Nairobi man has dragged a woman he met on a dating app to court after she allegedly orchestrated a daring robbery at her home, during which he was threatened with a hot electric iron and forced to surrender his M-Pesa PIN.
Lucy Njeri Kamau is accused of robbing Ahmed Ali of Sh108,000 on April 17, in the Zimmerman ACK area of Kasarani Sub-County, in collusion with another suspect who is yet to appear in court.
According to the charge sheet, Ali was subjected to violence and threatened with a hot electric iron held close to his neck. He was forced to reveal his Safaricom M-Pesa PIN, after which the suspects withdrew the money from a Family Bank ATM in Kasarani.
The incident began when Ali, while browsing a dating app, connected with Njeri. Intrigued by their conversation, he arranged to meet her at her home on the fateful day. For safety, he asked a friend to accompany him.
Upon arrival, the pair was warmly welcomed and offered refreshments. Shortly afterwards, Njeri requested that Ali’s friend step out so the two could have some privacy.
What started as friendly conversation soon took a sinister turn. Njeri excused herself to change clothes, she undressed and beckoned Ali to join her. When he hesitated, she pulled him inside.
At that moment, an unknown man emerged and overpowered Ali. The assailants demanded his M-Pesa PIN.
When he resisted, Njeri allegedly plugged in an electric iron and threatened to burn his neck. Fearing for his life, Ali complied. The suspects then withdrew Sh108,000 before chasing him away.
Traumatised, Ali reported the matter to Kasarani Police Station, leading to Njeri’s swift arrest. She was charged and granted bail of Sh250,000. The case is scheduled to be heard on 17 September.
