Nairobi nightclub 'Syndicate' blessed by priest, sparks debate

A video circulating online captures a Catholic priest blessing the newly opened Syndicate Night Club on Mirema Drive in Nairobi, sparking widespread attention.

In the footage, the priest stands at the club’s entrance, opens his Bible, and reads a passage of scripture aloud.

He leads a short prayer, invoking protection and guidance for the establishment, its staff, and its patrons.

Those present watch respectfully as he moves through the doorway and throughout the front area, pausing occasionally to make the sign of the cross.

After the prayer, the priest uses a sprinkler to disperse holy water around the entrance and inner threshold, a traditional act meant to sanctify the space and ward off negative influences.

The blessing appears calm and solemn, juxtaposed against the club’s neon signage and modern façade.

Onlookers film the ritual on their phones, and reactions online range from supportive to surprised, with some applauding the gesture as a bridge between faith and community, while others question the appropriateness of religious rites in a nightlife venue.

The clip has prompted conversations about the role of religious leaders in public events and the boundaries between sacred practices and secular spaces.

Syndicate Night Club’s management has not issued an official statement in the footage, but the ritual has already become a talking point across social platforms, highlighting how unexpected moments can quickly capture public interest.
