You are jealous of Ruto, UDA fires back at Uhuru Kenyatta
You are jealous of Ruto, UDA fires back at Uhuru Kenyatta [Kanyiri Wahito, Standard]

The United Democratic Alliance has fiercely criticised former President Uhuru Kenyatta, accusing him of harbouring deep bitterness, fierce jealousy, and a toxic obsession with his successor, President William Ruto.

In a sharply worded open letter, the ruling party demanded that the former head of state accept the reality of the 2022 transition and stop undermining the current administration.

"President Uhuru Kenyatta, we have heard you loud and clear," the party stated in its public statement. "First, temper your intense bitterness, fierce jealousy, endless envy, and toxic obsession with William Ruto."

The ruling party asserted that Kenyatta must come to terms with the fact that his preferred political schemes during the last general election failed to materialise.

"It is a fact that William Ruto won the 2022 election against your wishes and political schemes," the ruling party added. "For once, be a democrat. William Ruto is now the President of the Republic of Kenya. That is a reality you must live with and accept."

The political salvos from the ruling party follow a series of highly charged remarks made by Kenyatta during a recent delegates' meeting in Kiambu County, where he openly criticised the economic policies and governance style of the current administration.

Shifting the blame for Kenya's current financial struggles back to the previous administration, the party described Kenyatta's ten-year tenure as a period marked by massive economic mismanagement; a 'severely damaged country characterised by an unsustainable public debt burden and collapsing public institutions'.

"In many respects, you handed over one of the most broken governments in Kenya’s modern history," the statement noted. "What you handed over was not a functioning economy; it was a ticking time bomb."

Beyond the immediate political attacks, the party defended its own sectoral achievements, claiming that President Ruto has successfully revived agriculture by reducing fertilizer prices from Sh7,500 to Sh2,500 per bag.

They further highlighted ongoing multi-billion infrastructure developments, including the construction of thousands of housing units and new markets across Kiambu County.

In a show of bitternes, UDA also took a swipe at how the former head of state previously responded to the public outcry over skyrocketing fuel costs while he was still in office, quoting an instance where Kenyatta appeared to detach himself from the economic realities of the country by mockingly asking citizens if he was responsible for global supply shocks.

"Bei imepanda, uliza Uhuru. Yaani mimi Uhuru niko Ukraine? Mimi nafanya nini huko? Jameni," the party quoted Kenyatta.
